Yesterday

A small group of Michigan settlers, led by William Linton and David Swinton began settling in this area in 1894. Delray's early history was dominated by agriculture. The environment also provided them with plenty of fish, crab and lobster from the ocean.

In 1901 Delray was named after a Spanish derivate meaning "of the king". In 1911 it was first incorporated and became city of Delray Beach.

Once Henry Flagler expanded the railroad from West Palm to Miami, the farmers began exporting their harvest of pineapples, tomatoes, peppers, other fruit and vegetables.

In 1925 Delray's Chamber of Commerce was founded and the town began blooming with tourists, trade and a healthy, self-supporting economy.
